TIAH Raises $120,000 for Border Health Fund

This is About Humanity and the International Community Foundation announced the beneficiaries of our first COVID-19 relief matching grant, awarding over $100,000 collectively. Beneficiary organizations serve the Tijuana, Ensenada, Mexicali and Tecate areas in Baja California and help a wide range of ages (preschool to the elderly) and vulnerable communities (LGBTQIA+, African migrants, children with disabilities, doubly vulnerable immunocompromised cancer patients, and more).

Project highlights of the programs funded in this round  include, and are certainly not limited to:

  • Sponsoring PPE and other medical supplies for Tijuana’s General Hospital

  • Providing 14-16 health outreach days inclusive of collaborations with UCLA Tele-Equality and COVID-19 rapid detection tests, with relief kits for up to 100 patients per outreach day (1,400-1,600 individuals)

  • Providing COVID-19 PPE kits, medication, and food for 50 CRIT families (vulnerable pediatric patients including cancer patients, children with disabilities, and children with autism)

  • Supporting 40 children with autism and their families with remote teaching, therapy and COVID-19 support

  • Supporting 480 clinic consults per month and COVID-19 rapid detection tests for vulnerable communities

  • LGBTQIA+ COVID-19 relief resources

  • Sponsoring sanitation, provision of PPE, and cleaning supplies for public transportation mini-buses for 4 months, 70 routes, 100 people per route per day (70,000 + people a day)

  • Addressing food needs and support for food banks serving Tijuana, Tecate and Ensenada

  • COVID-19 relief support and food supplies for 100 Haitian and African families

  • Educational school bus for 250 migrant schoolchildren and toddlers during the pandemic.
